Thiagi's expertise as a facilitator

As a highschool student, Thiagi was a physical klutz who ended up being the goalpost during soccer games. To compensate for this, he organized teams of nonplayers to demand alternate recreational activities. Later, as a highschool teacher, Thiagi organized his colleagues to conduct protest marches and his students to conduct science fairs.

Ever since his youthful teambuilding days, Thiagi has understood the importance of facilitating people's involvement and applied his field-based principles to a variety of situations. He increased his knowledge and skills by formal study of the psychology of small groups at Indiana University. By observing and analyzing the performance of several expert facilitators over a decade, Thiagi evolved his balancing-act model for conducting small-group activities. He has also conducted several field studies on the power of debriefing to ensure reflection and sharing of insights from real-world and simulated experiences. His procedural model for debrieifng provides a powerful tool for learning organizations. As a leading designer of simulations, games, and experiential activities, he has facilitated groups and trained other people to do the same.

Thiagi's unique, interactive training mode ensures enthusiastic involvement with even the most jaded group. A sought-after facilitator, he is invited back year after year to the training conferences of ASTD and ISPI and to the participatory activities of his client organizations.
